The Design Process
At Gary Mills designs 4u, we like to focus on what I consider to be the trademarks of our business. Classic style, good quality fabrics, detailing of subtle embroidery, delicate flowers, and hand painted stylized designs. Inspiration comes from classical silhouettes to contempory styles from the catwalk. But the client plays an important part in the design process, We always start with; “what wont you wear?”.
From a free initial consultation, we discuss possible design ideas with the client.Once a clear idea of what you are looking for is decided and you are in agreement, we then illustrate your design and provide a selection of fabric swatches, and costing, at this stage we take a 33% deposit of the final total balance.
Measurements are taken, a pattern is then drafted and a toile made and fitted to the client. (The toile is a mock up of the garment in calico or poly cotton, which is fitted to the client and any alterations, can be made at this stage. The client also has an idea of what the final look of the garment will be.)The actual garment is then constructed, with 1-2 fittings, final balance of payment is then made at this point.
The process can take a minimum of six weeks in total from start to finish, but some clients like to take longer, especially for a wedding dress. We only use natural fabrics such as silks, wools and cottons in our exclusive designs.
